Although there are still many keyboard fans in the world of Gamers, there is no doubt that many computer games are more enjoyable when we have the possibility of playing with a controller with a joystick, buttons and various options. It is true that in most cases it is not necessary to have a command with specific characteristics. For example, if we have a PlayStation 4 at home, there is the possibility of connect ps4 controller to pc or laptop without major complications. We explain the different ways of doing it that we have.
Some may not see the need to do this. Many think that for most PC games we are already well served with The keyboard and the mouse. However, many other players prefer to feel the thrill of controlling the game with their bare hands in a more real way. The one that can only be achieved with a controller like the one on the PS4.
In the case of classic strategy games or the shooters, the remote seems like an expendable accessory. Not so for playing the type games jump and run or those of fight and combat. For this kind of gameshave a good command makes a big difference in terms of gaming experience.

How to connect a PS4 controller to PC
In general, we have two methods to make this connection: through a cable or using a connection via bluetooth:
via a wire
let's call him the "classic method". It is also the easiest option, as long as we have the appropriate connection components, on the other hand not too difficult to obtain.
To connect the PS4 controller to a computer, you only need the connection cable, which is the same one used to charge the PS4 DualShock 4 controller. This cable connects to the computer through the USB port (2.0 or 3.0, it doesn't matter).
The connection process, which was already quite simple, became even easier starting with Windows 10. This version of the operating system (like Windows 11), recognizes the command directly, with which the configuration is done automatically and very quickly. In other words: all we have to do is plug in the cables, the system will take care of the rest of the work. In a matter of seconds the command will then be ready to be used.
However, this may vary depending on the age of the game we want to play. Sometimes, even using Windows 10, we will have to take a few seconds to configure button mapping (This is explained in the final section of this article).
If the connection is correct, we will know immediately, because the blue light control and, at the same time, a message will be displayed on the computer screen in the notification center notifying us of the connection of the peripheral.
Via Bluetooth
The Sony PlayStation 4 wireless controller does not require the use of cables for connection to a computer, as it can be connected to a PC easily through the bluetooth function which is integrated.
Logically, to start this connection, the first thing we should look at is if Bluetooth is activated on our computer. This is essential to establish the connection between the PC and the hardware. The verification is very simple, just follow these steps:
- First we open the menu of «Settings» of the computer.
- Then we will "Devices".
- Finally, at the top of the menu, we activate the bluetooth function (in case it is not already activated) by clicking on it.
Once we have verified that the Bluetooth function of our equipment is active, we can start the process of connecting the PS4 controller to PC.
Important: an element that we are going to need yes or yes is a adapter that we must connect to any of the USB ports of our computer. This adapter, marketed by the brand itself, is a bit expensive, but in return it gives us a stable link and full compatibility with the PS4 controller.
And now yes, you can proceed to the connection from where we left off in point 3 of the previous list:
- select "Add Bluetooth or other device", doing after Click the Bluetooth item.
- Once this is done, our PC will start a Active search for all Bluetooth devices that are nearby. Remember that, for the connection or pairing to take place, the PS4 controller must also be activated. To do this, simultaneously press the PS and Share buttons.
- Once the PC recognizes the PS4 controller as a wireless controller, we click on "To select" to complete the connection.
Configure the PS4 controller for use on a computer
Even strictly following the instructions explained above, it is possible that there may be connection failures. This mostly happens with some old games that are not able to recognize the PS4 controller. Or also because the default assignment of the buttons is not correct and must be adjusted again.
Whatever the source of the error, there are several ways to correct it. Of course, to adjust all the settings, we are going to have to invest a little attention and time. But is it worth it.
How does it work? Once this application is installed on our PC, it is enough to start it up so that it automatically recognizes the connected controller. From its complete interface (see image above) we will be able to adjust the configuration profiles of each button, one by one, according to our tastes and preferences.
