How to disable Avast so it doesn't bother you

Disable Avast

Avast It is the second most used free antivirus in the world with about 400 million users. The truth is that this success is not accidental, but the result of work that Avast began in the Czech Republic in the early 90's. Without a doubt, this is one of the best free antivirus of the world. So, being such a good product, What reason is there to disable Avast on your computer?

Among many other features, Avast (acronym for Anti Virus Advanced Set) performs scans for malicious programs, can detect ransomware and is even capable of analyzing our WiFi network. More than an antivirus or a simple «shield», it is a complete and highly effective security system for our computing devices. But of course, all these actions require a lot of resources and can do make our equipment run slower and less efficiently.

So, in today's post, we are going to explain the options that exist to disable Avast, either temporarily or permanently. We will also see the options that exist for disable some specific functions of this antivirus, in case we want to keep some and dispense with others.

How to temporarily disable Avast

First of all let's see what to do to disable all set of Avast shields temporarily. By doing so, we will ensure that the antivirus does not interfere at all in any operation we carry out with our equipment.

It is important to note at this point in the risk which involves disabling Avast completely, even if it is only temporarily. This action will leave our team totally unprotected, so we will have to be very careful with the steps we are going to take.

How to temporarily disable Avast

To temporarily disable Avast, follow these steps:

  1. On the taskbar, find the avast icon. It is very easy to recognize by its striking orange color.
  2. Click on the icon with the right mouse button. A list of tasks will be displayed. We will choose the option of "Avast Shield Control". We will be shown several options relative to the antivirus deactivation period:
    • Disable for 10 minutes.
    • Disable for an hour.
    • Disable until the computer restarts.
    • Permanently disable Avast.

Important: if the option chosen is the last one on the list (the one to permanently deactivate), to re-enable Avast functions we will have to do it manually.

How to disable a specific Avast shield

Well thought out, rather than disabling Avast entirely, it is much wiser to be selective and only make changes to the shields or functions of the antivrus that we do not need, leaving the rest in operation. In this way, the situation of total lack of protection that we refer to in the previous section is not incurred.

As before, you can also deactivate an Avast shield temporarily or permanently. We will see how it is done in each of the two cases.

Temporarily

Temporarily disable one or more Avast shields

To carry out this operation, we will proceed as follows:

    1. First we will open the Avast program by double clicking on the desktop icon or from the start menu.
    2. Next, when the interface appears, we will look for the tab "Protection", located in the upper left, and we will click.
    3. In the menu that will appear, we select the option «Basic shields».
    4. After clicking, all the Avast shields that we have installed on our computer will appear on the screen. The deactivation option is under each of the icons.
    5. By putting the option "disable" again we will be shown the four temporary options mentioned above (disable for 10 minutes, one hour, until the computer is restarted or permanently).
    6. Before finalizing the deactivation, Avast will ask us once more if we are sure to proceed to disable the selected shield. Logically, we will press the "Yes" button.

Definitively

If we are very sure that we are never going to use a certain shield or a specific Avast component again, the most logical thing is eliminate it permanently. Still, it is better to stop and think a bit before acting, since this operation has no going backwards. The only way to undo it would be to reinstall the program from scratch.

Permanently disable one or more Avast shields

But if we are clear about it, it is not worth sacrificing the proper functioning of your computer for a series of shields and components that we will never use. Better to delete them forever. To help us and assist us in this task, the latest versions of Avast incorporate the option to selectively remove some of your modules.

Let's see how it is done:

  1. As in the previous process, first it will be necessary access the main Avast interface.
  2. There, we will click on the button "Menu" located at the top right of the screen to access the menu from there. "Options".
  3. The next step is to access the tab entitled "General", on the left.
  4. From there, we will first select the option of "Problem resolution" and after that of "Add or modify components".
  5.  Then a new window will appear before our eyes where each and every one of the Avast Antivirus components and shields available will be read. We will carefully choose those we want to get rid of by removing the activation mark and then press the button "Modify" for the changes to take effect.

Modify the sensitivity of the shields

A solution halfway between disabling the shields temporarily and permanently is to change sensitivity of them relative to the default value.

High sensitivity increases protection and therefore the possibility of false positives when detecting malware. This results in numerous annoying and useless notices. If instead we select a sensitivity, this possibility is reduced. To reduce the sensitivity you just have to hold down the white marker and slide it to the sensitivity setting we want.

The idea can be very useful, but you have to be aware of its drawbacks, because by reducing the sensitivity we run the risk of reducing the effectiveness of the basic shields of our Avast antivirus.
