What are signature lines

Any document that establishes a commitment by two or more parties requires several signatures to confirm it. To make it clear from the start which space is reserved for your signature, the best thing to do is add a signature line.

In this way, the people who have to sign the document will not ask where they have to sign. Although it is not an annoying question, when it comes to an important commitment, nerves can play tricks on us.

The signature lines are nothing more than a horizontal line that is placed above the name of the person or represents a company that has to sign the document.

The simplest solution is to use the _ character several times to form a line. However, depending on the version of Word and Word settings, this characters may not automatically join creating a line.

Another solution is to write the name of the person who has to sign the document inside a table cell and only add the border to the top. However, working with cells independently is not a quick process and much less easy.

The solution to this problem is to use the function that Microsoft offers us directly in Word. In case you had any doubts, with Word you can create and format documents with anything that comes to mind.

  • Finally, we click on Sign.

How many signature lines can I add?

edit word signature

Whether you want to add one or multiple signature lines in word, the first thing you should know is that there is no limitation, beyond the space necessary to carry out this process.

Depending on the number of data that we want to include in the signature line, as a general rule, it occupies between 6 and 8 lines. The font used in the signature lines is the same that we are using in the document.

If the space that we have destined to add the signature is reduced, this option will fit the available space without changing the format that we have used in the application.

If even so, it remains too large, we can click on the signature box and modify its size stop making it bigger or smaller and to fit the available size.

How to edit a signature line

Word does not allow us to edit a signature line once it is created. The only solution is delete it and recreate it. Taking into account that we only have to fill in two lines of text, the process is not very laborious and does not take much time.
