Instagram is testing a new feature called "Peek" which consists of sending ephemeral photographs to your followers at a given time. A function that, without a doubt, is inspired by social networks like BeReal. The trend towards ephemeral content is a reality and is reflected in the new Peek function, which we will see if it finally reaches the definitive version of Instagram. Let's see what Instagram Peeks might be like.
What is Instagram Peek?
Peek ("take a look" or "take a look" in English) is the new functionality that has surprised everyone on Twitter. I say on Twitter why Alexander Paluzzi, a popular reverse engineer, has detected that this functionality is being tested on Instagram and has shared it on your Twitter channel.
It precisely explains what this new function is like, which, as I said, It is reminiscent of another well-known social network, BeReal. And the new Instagram functionality seems to be a copy of the latter since it is aims to motivate users to upload ephemeral content to the network at any given time.
In fact, Instagram Peek would work as follows.
- At one point You receive a notification to upload a Peek.
- Simply when you receive the notification, point the camera and take a screenshot of what is being done.
- No filters allowed or take pictures from gallery.
- The most important thing is that these images can only be viewed once, being ephemeral content.
As you can see, sharing a peek can be very intimate and that is exactly what is intended. That with this tool we can connect with our followers in a more personal and direct way.
A new feature being tested
This new function, which is based on the spontaneity and authenticity of the photographer, aims to make this another way to share those small moments that make you unique, with the people you love. But for now we cannot enjoy Instagram Peeks since it is in Test phase.
Maybe it will be launched on Instagram but it cannot be confirmed yet. At the moment we only have the leak from Alessandro Paluzzi and a thread of comments in "X", comments that show both rejection and excitement about the arrival of these Instagram Peeks.
And one of the fundamental criticisms is that it is a “stolen” functionality from BeReal or SnapChat. Something that other users refute, stating that it is something that can encourage users to capture and share moments in real time to strengthen relationships between its users. Although it is not expressly used for increase your reach on this network, yes it will improve your engagement with those who open your peek.
It is certainly an interesting feature and we are waiting if it is finally developed for all users. But what do you think?Do you think it's a good feature or do you think it won't be successful on the current Instagram? I read you in comments.
