How does Pluto TV work? Advertising
Pluto TV offers a unique service in Spain as it is a platform for streaming free. This is because it includes advertising in its players, so when we want to see some content, we will have to "swallow" YouTube-style ads, but without being able to jump over them.
The ads will appear in the cuts between programs and will be adapted to the content, so they can jump at any time while we watch some content. The platform ensures that they will never exceed 8 minutes in length together and the ads that come out they will be short.
Differences between Pluto Tv and Netflix, HBO or Amazon Prime Video
Pluto TV's format is totally different from its competitors. The basis of this platform lies in being like a traditional television, with live programs at all times.
That way, unlike Netflix, when we go to Pluto TV, we will not see the different shows, series and movies that are available. On Pluto TV we will see the last live channel by default that we have seen when entering the web / application.
Even when we enter the On Demand section, the live content of the last channel we have visited will be automatically reproduced in a small window.
the interface of the «Live TV» section of Pluto TV is far from that of Netflix or HBO and closely resembles the style of Smart-TV guides for traditional channels with a grid of the programming shown in horizontal time lines, so that we will see what is being broadcast at that moment in all the channels, what are the next programs and what have been the previous ones.
On the other hand, the interface of the «On Demand» section is very similar to that of its competitors, with access to programs classified by subject and category.
Is Pluto TV worth it?
Strengths
Our opinion is that Pluto Tv it is worth it. The Pluto TV idea is a good one: a platform is free and you don't need to sign up to watch the content. It is worth giving it a try, but accepting the limitations of a platform of these characteristics.
It is true that we will not find films or series as novel as we can on Netflix or HBP, but Pluto Tv has a good variety of content worth browsing.
In addition, in terms of usability, the platform works very well, it is very intuitive and it does not give many problems. And all this knowing that it has recently arrived in Spain.
Weak points
The Pluto TV catalog is still quite limited compared to the competition. There is very interesting content, but it is limited. Also, we found too much content vintage and that is not to the liking of all audiences. If we go into the categories of drama, comedy or horror, we find a very meager supply.
There are 24-hour channels of continuous broadcast of a program or series specifically, like "Ana y los Siete." This may be a positive point for a certain audience, but in our opinion we believe that this will not be very successful and will be something annoying for users.
As a negative point, Pluto Tv does not offer search tools or content classification methods as they can be: lists of favorites, thematic tags, search by distribution or directly the search of any type. However, we have no doubt that this will be fixed and the platform adapted.
Another problem that we can find is that if we start watching a movie in the live TV section and it is half way through we won't be able to see her from the start unless it is in the On Demand section.
In short, Pluto TV has just landed in our country, we cannot ask for everything knowing its characteristics as a platform for streaming. However, linear tv idea is very good, and that will make a gap between the rest of the platforms. You just have to wait for the next steps they take and how they improve their services.
