How to share a Steam library with other players

Steam

Steam has millions of users around the world. If you have been using this platform for a while, you may have already accumulated a good number of games in your library. Something that many players wish is to be able to share their Steam library with other people, such as their friends or family. In this way, these people will also be able to have access to those games that you have in your library on the well-known platform.

Sharing your Steam library is something possible and it is allowed. This process is not complicated, although many users on this platform do not know the steps they have to follow in this regard, if they want to give access to their library of games to a friend or relative who wants to be able to play them as well. We tell you today how it is possible to do this.

If we give a person access to our library on the platform, they will be able to play those games that we have on it. Although it won't be possible for me to play a game which we are playing at that moment. They will only be able to access those games that we are not playing. This is something that is important to know, in case you had thought to give a person access because you want them to play the same game that you are playing at that moment. Many see it as a limitation of this feature, but it is the standard set by Valve in this regard.

Important reminder

This function of sharing library with other users on Steam is something that we are going to do through the option of sharing games with the family. For this it will be necessary log in with that person's account with which you will share your library of games on your same computer. As you can see, this is something we should only do with people we trust and with whom we have a close relationship. Since this person will have to provide us with the username or email, as well as their password to access the platform.

Something recommended in these cases, to avoid problems, is that that person create a temporary password for your account. So that when this process is complete, you can put the password that you really want to use and thus prevent us from accessing, or that any other person without authorization from accessing your account on the gaming platform. For many users it can be something much easier and will give them a more secure feeling.

Share your games with others on Steam

Steam share library

If we have already discussed with the other person that we are going to need their login details for this process and everything is fixed, then we can start with this process, in which let's share our Steam library with another person. The first thing we will have to do in this case is open the Steam application on our computer and then we will log into our own account in it.

Once we are already in the account in the app, we will go to the top menu of it. There we have to click on the Steam tab, which will cause a menu to open on the screen. In that menu that comes out then you have to click on the option called Parameters. This is what will take us to the configuration of the platform.

When we are already in this Parameters section, we have to look at the column that is located on the left side of the screen. We can see that there is a list with options in it. We are going to have to click on the Family option or section, which is the second option from the top. When this section opens on the screen, we are going to go to the section called Family Loan. One of the options within this section is called Authorize the family loan on this computer and we will have to activate this same function in our account, since it is the one we have to use.

Once we have activated this option of the family loan, we will see that at the bottom of the screen there is an empty list called Eligible Accounts. In this list they will come out those Steam accounts that are logged into on that computer. This function of the loan is something that is designed to be used with members of the same family, that is why it is requested that they be accounts that have logged into that same computer, as they are only accounts of trusted people. This is only a procedure, that is, that person will only have to log in once, but they will not have to continue using the same PC in the future. You will then have to choose an account from those that appear in that list.

Next what we have to do is log out of our Steam account and then log in with that person's account with which we want to share the games in our library. As we have mentioned before we start, we are going to need that person's username (or their email), as well as the access password (ideal if it is a temporary one, so that they can change it later). Then we will have this account of the other person available on our screen in a matter of a few seconds.

Our task is now to repeat the same steps that we have carried out before to activate that family loan of games on the platform, only now on the other person's account. So we will go to the Parameters section in that upper menu, to then go to the Family section that appears in that left part of the screen. Then we activate the family loan option in this account and we will then see that our account will also appear in that list. We then select our account, so that this loan will work between the two accounts in both directions.

When you're done, log out of your friend or family member's account. Then you will have to enter your account again, so you will have to log in to Steam once more. Then access the Parameters section, then open the Family section and then go to the Family Loan section. There we will see that the name of our friend comes out, so that we mark the share box that appears next to the name of that person in the listing. By checking this box, our Steam library will be shared with that person directly. We have thus completed this process of sharing the game library in our account on the gaming platform.

Access to games from the library

When the other person now accesses their Steam account, they will be able to see this library then. On your screen you will be able to see that the games in your library on the platform are already out directly into theirs, as if these games were theirs and they bought them themselves. If you want to enter one of these games in your account, you will be able to access it without any problem. By clicking on one of them you will get information about the game, which also indicates the library from which they come, in this case it will be ours, so you can see that we have been the ones who have shared that game with them .

As we have mentioned before, this person will be able to have access to our games, but you will not be able to play in those games that we are playing at that moment. Access is somewhat limited to those games that we are not playing. But in many cases, the library of games on Steam is vast, so the other person is going to have a huge selection of games that they can play anytime they want. If a game is available to them, they can see that on the screen they will have a green button that says Play. They will only have to click on that button to start playing that game on their account.

In addition, this access to the games is completely free, which is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects. Sharing our game library on Steam is simple and it's free. The person with whom we have shared our library will be able to play those games for free, as if they were the ones who had downloaded those games to their PC. They will have access to all the functions of the game that we have in our profile, without limitations. So they can enjoy the full gaming platform experience on their PC directly in their libraries.
