It is not uncommon for a problem to arise with our Windows computer from time to time. A situation that many already know is that it does not let me write in the Windows search engine. This is a problem that can occur in any of the versions of the operating system and is something of the most annoying. What to do in this type of situation?
There are a number of solutions that we can test when it does not let me write in the windows search engine. It is a problem that clearly limits us when using our computer, so it is important to solve it as soon as possible. Fortunately, there are a number of options available in this regard. Thanks to them everything should work fine again.
We have compiled a series of solutions that we can apply to our Windows computer in this type of situation. If it won't let me type in the Windows search engine, the most normal thing is that one of these solutions is the one that allows you to write again in said search engine on your PC. They are simple solutions, that do not require installing anything, but rather actions that we are going to be able to carry out on the computer itself in a simple way. So it is good to try them all and see which one works in your particular case.
Restart your computer
We start with the most obvious solution, but today it continues to work perfectly in the face of any problem that may arise in any of the versions of Windows. Many times it is a problem that arises in the processes of the PC or the programs that are on it. Therefore, if we restart the computer, these processes stop and then they will restart. This means that the process where the error occurred will also be restarted, something that should help put an end to this annoying error.
Therefore, click on the start icon and then on the shutdown icon. Of the options that come out, we choose to restart the computer. This is a process that will take a couple of minutes. Then it will take us to the home screen, where we enter our access password (if we have one) and we will be back on the desktop of our computer. We can now try to write something in the Windows search engine. Most likely, it will let us do this already, so we can use it without any problem. If this is not the case, there are other solutions to try.
repair commands
When it won't let me type in the windows search engine, there are some repair commands that can help us to solve this problem on our computer. - The task manager window then opens.
- Select the File tab.
- Now go to the Run new task option.
- Check the box that says Create this task with administrative privileges.
- Type CMD and click OK.
- Copy the following commands one by one and press Enter:
- DISM / Online / Cleanup Image / CheckHealth
- DISM / Online / Cleanup Image / ScanHealth
- DISM / Online / Cleanup Image / RestoreHealth
The most normal thing is that when you have entered these commands in said console, everything will return to normal. That is, you will be able to write again in the search engine in Windows as before. So this annoying bug that was affecting us has now been eliminated, luckily. This is a simple solution, which will not take too much time, so it is something worth trying at all times.
Reinstalling apps
Many times, the previous solution has not been enough, so we can follow it with a second step or component. It's about reinstalling apps. As we have said, there are times when it does not let me type in the Windows search engine, it is a failure due to an update or the use of an app in the operating system. So this second phase will allow us to go one step further and finally solve this error. The steps to follow now are:
- Press the Control, Shift, Esc keys at the same time.
- The task manager window then opens.
- Select the File tab.
- Now go to the Run new task option.
- Check the box that says Create this task with administrative privileges.
- Type powershell and click ok.
- Copy and paste the following commands one by one and press the Enter key:

- $manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
These commands must be copied verbatim as they are here, so that we are sure that the correct command is used for this process. Normally, when we have entered these commands, everything will be solved, so the search bar in Windows already works again. There are times when we get some error messages when using these solutions on the PC, but in most cases it is something that will work fine.
Disable Bing from the start menu
One reason it won't let me type in Windows Finder might be that there are problems with Bing on the Start Screen. Compatibility problems may arise, which are what prevent us from using the computer's browser normally. In this situation, something we can do is disable Bing from the computer's start menu. This is something that can help us in many cases. The steps we have to follow are:
- Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run on PC window.
- Type regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
- Grant admin permissions.
- Type the command Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
- Locate the Search folder and click on it.
- Create a new registry entry in it, which should be called BingSearchEnabled
- Click on it to edit its value.
- Write the number 0 in the popup window as the value of this folder.
- In that same folder, double-click CortanaConsent.
- In the pop-up window, type the number 0 in the box called Value data.
When you've done this, we try again to see if this Windows search engine works. As you can see, in many cases this annoying error has already been solved and we can use the search engine on our computer normally. So we are now going to be able to carry out the searches we wanted without any problem. When you have made these changes, restart the computer first so that they will actually run, there are times when it doesn't happen.
remove the keyboard
The following solution is another one that usually works well for this problem in the operating system. what we are going to do is remove the keyboard, to reinstall it again later. This is something that we can do if the previous solutions do not finish solving this problem in Windows. Again, the steps aren't too complicated, so it's something everyone can try. The steps to follow are those:
- Open the operating system settings.
- Go to Time and language.
- Tap on Region and language.
- Click on Language to display (Spanish) and then on Options.
- Click the option to Add a keyboard.
- Once that is added, click on the keyboard that you already had on your computer.
- Click on the Remove option that appears next to said keyboard.
- Close the configuration window and from the taskbar choose the keyboard (click on the text that says ESP, next to the time and date).
- Check if this has fixed the problem. Reboot the PC in many cases for that change to take effect.
- Then reverse the process and add the original keyboard back.
This keyboard change is something that usually works well. Many times, the reason why the search engine in Windows does not work or does not let us write in it, it is a problem with the keyboard being used. Therefore, changing the keyboard or adding another is usually something that allows us to put an end to said problem in the operating system. This way we will be able to use the search engine again in the operating system whenever we want. So it is a simple solution, but it is usually effective in many cases.
