Therefore, many want to use this feature.
Now, we tell you more about this remote desktop and how it is used. In this way you can have that remote control through Chrome, which is something that can be very useful on many occasions. This way you will know what you have to do if you want to be able to use this function available in the well-known browser.
This method is presented as an easy way to access another of your devices remotely. Something that is helpful if we have forgotten a certain piece of equipment at home or at work, for example. This way you will be able to have access to it at all times when necessary. The process is a simple thing to do.
What is Google Chrome remote desktop
Chrome remote desktop is an application created by Google with the purpose of control your computer remotely making use of the Chrome browser for it. The use of this application supposes that you will be able to access your computer from another device, and then control it remotely. Not only will you be able to control the Chrome browser, but you will also be able to control the entire computer to navigate through all the files and menus on the computer.
It is a system that works through the Google account. Therefore, it is necessary to use it in Chrome where you have the system extension configured. The same Google account must be used on all devices so that we can access this application and control the computer remotely then. In addition, to make it more secure and prevent someone from using it without permission, we will be asked to establish a security PIN.
This is something that works on both macOS and Windows. Also, the process to set up remote control or access from Chrome is the same on all operating systems, so it's pretty straightforward. You have to have Chrome installed to be able to start the configuration, of course. Then you can enter from other computers through Chrome, or from mobiles with the browser application. You will only have to use that same Google account for this to be possible at all times.
Set up remote desktop
Once we know what this remote desktop is and what it can be used for in the well-known browser, it's time to configure this function. The reality is that this is something very simple, so you will not have problems when doing it. As we have mentioned, it is something that can be used in all types of operating systems, so it is something that we can use in many cases. It will depend on the Google account that we have linked in the browser at all times.
First steps to follow
The first thing we have to do in this case is to open Chrome on your computer. In case you do not have this browser, you will have to install it on your PC first, so that we can then make use of this function. When we already have the browser open on the PC, write the URL remotedesktop.google.com/access in the address bar and press enter. This will take us to the page to configure the system.
Having done this leads us to Chrome remote desktop page, where we will be able to configure the service in its entirety. The interface on this screen is very simple to understand, so we won't have any problems in this regard, and the steps we have to follow aren't complicated either. The first thing to do is click on the blue down arrow icon in the Configure remote access section. Then this process will begin.
When you press that button, we will see that a new Chrome page opens, which is the one that takes us to the Chrome Remote Desktop extension. Within that page, you have to click on the Add to Chrome button to then install the extension in the browser. We will be asked to accept the conditions of use of this extension, otherwise we will not be able to use this Chrome remote control.
When we return to the main screen we can see that an executable file has been downloaded in the browser. This is not something that should surprise us, since this file is of great importance, we are going to need it for everything to work correctly. As the browser has already detected this file in question and we are only going to have to click on the Accept and install button on the page so that it proceeds to automatically install the file. We won't have to do anything else with it.
Configuration
When we have installed this executable file, the configuration process begins. That is, we have to configure the computer and get it ready so that remote access or control is possible through Chrome. The first step in this setup is to choose a name for your computer (the one we want) and then click on Next. This is the name that will appear when you later go to find your computer from another device. For this reason, it is better that it be an easy name to remember and recognize, so that we always know that it is our PC.
Now, we will be asked to establish a PIN code of 6 characters as a security measure. This is an essential step to prevent someone from accessing this remote without our permission. We are going to have to write the code twice so that we can continue with this process. This is the PIN code that we are asked for each time the connection between a remote device and ours is going to be established. It is recommended that this code be something that is not easy to guess, to prevent someone from entering this application without our permission.
With this we have already left everything configured on our computer. Chrome will be responsible for the computer to start connecting to the remote access system. You will see that after a few seconds the word Online appears under the name you have chosen for the computer, and it will be the signal that it is ready for said connection.
Access from another device
The computer is now ready, so now we will have to use another device to be able to use this Chrome remote control. To be able to access the computer from another device (it can be another PC, a tablet or a mobile phone), all you have to do is open Chrome with the same user session on that other device. That is, you have to use the same Google account that you have open on the PC where we have configured the remote desktop.
Once we have started this session, we go to the URL bar in Google Chrome and then we have to enter the following address: remotedesktop.google.com/access. When we have entered it, Chrome will detect the other device that you have configured. Here, all we have to do is click on the name of the computer you want to access at that time.
Chrome will then ask us for the security PIN that we have configured in the previous section, the one that is needed for said access. When you have written that code, it becomes possible to control the computer from another device, then. Everything you do on the screen of that second device you've accessed will be done on the computer where we set everything up in the first place. So we already have a remote control through Chrome, which will allow us to do all kinds of actions on that PC. As we have said, not only will we be able to use the browser, but we will also have the possibility of opening folders or doing other functions on the PC.
If we want to control the PC from the mobile or tablet with Android, we have to download the remote desktop app that is available in the Google Play Store (link below). When you have installed the app, you have to log in to the Google account that you have used in this process. Then we will be able to choose the computer on the screen and we will simply have to enter the security PIN. The connection is already established in this way and we get that remote control through Chrome. The process is the same on iOS, only you have to download the app from the App Store in this case.
