The cameras integrated into our smartphones are getting better, more precise and powerful. Since they appeared in the early 2000s (in the case of the iPhone, in 2007), they have swept the old digital cameras off the map and have achieved a degree of excellence that is truly impressive. But it is always possible to go one step further, so we present some ideas for improve the quality of your photos with iPhone.
For the vast majority of users, the functions and tools offered by the cameras on their phones are more than enough. However, there are other more demanding users who always seek to raise the level of their photographs. If you are one of them, you will be interested in the content that we present below:
Image professionals know very well that getting perfect photos is a job that usually consists of two phases: first, the capture of the image; then the editing work. In both one and the other there are many things that can be done to improve and the tricks that will help us.
iPhone Settings for Better Photos
Knowing the tricks to obtain beautiful photos will be able to do most of the work, without having to invest too much time in editing tasks after the fact. And while it's true that iPhone cameras are magnificent, there's always room for improvement.
The adjustments that we list below are available on latest models, and some of them on older iPhones too. Do not hesitate to use them to improve the quality of your photos with iPhone:
Photo Style Selection
El photographic style that comes by default in the iPhone Camera app is the “Standard”. It is the most versatile option, although not always the best. Actually, we can access five different styles that can be selected by clicking on the central icon at the top of the screen. They are the following:
- Standard.
- Bright.
- intense contrast.
- Warm.
- Cold.
Using the Macro function
When it comes to close-up photographs in which we want to highlight even the smallest detail, the macro function it can be very useful. It is available on the Pro versions of the iPhone, which have a wide-angle lens with autofocus.
Activating this function is very simple. Just go to the settings menu, select camera and then choose "Macro control". When doing so, when we go to take a photo, we will see the icon of a yellow flower on the screen.
Filter
Just like on Instagram, the iPhone offers us a lot of filters to give our photos a different look. Before applying them, we have the possibility of obtaining a preview of the changes that will be reflected in the photo.
In the photo, we just have to click on the icon of the three interlocking circles (above, to the right of the screen) and choose between the different options.
Disable “Prioritize speed over quality”
In all Apple smartphones from iPhone 14, this option is activated by default. Your title is quite descriptive. “Prioritize speed over quality in photos”, that is, if our objective is to increase the quality, we must deactivate it. By doing so, the captures will be slower, but will have a higher image quality.
Editing photos with iPhone
The image is already saved in our gallery or photo library, but there are still many things we can do to improve the quality of iPhone photos. This is the editing phase, for which we have very good tools, both internal and external:
Edit directly from the image
Opening on any photo saved on our iPhone and clicking on the "Edit" button we will access a simple interface with two options: Filters and Adjust.
The available filters are the same that we have when we are going to take a photograph, only now we can apply them after having taken it. They give us a very limited edition, without the possibility of going into details. for that we have the "Adjust" option, with a series of simple controls that any user, without having to have extensive knowledge of photography, can handle.
Playing with the two options (Filters and Adjust) we will be able to retouch our photos achieving a high level of detail. These are a couple of nice tools to give our images the look we really want.
Photos App
This popular application allows us to do a great editing job in a simple wayFrom adjusting light and color levels, to cropping and rotating photos, adding filters, and more. These are some of the basic functions of the Photos App:
- Light and color adjustments: exposure, brightness, highlights and shadows, etc.
- Perspective adjustments: straighten, portrait or landscape view…
