There are many doubts and questions that are accompanying the launch of the new version of Microsoft's operating system. For example, many users have asked the question of how to open folders with one click in Windows 11. Does it run the same as Windows 10 and earlier versions? Is there any trick or novelty?
In reality, everything is as it has always been. Or not. It depends on how we want to configure our options. It seems confusing, but the truth is that it is very simple. We explain it below.
The classic double-click method
By default, to open a file to folder in Windows 11 all you have to do is double click about them. The classical method, well known to the whole world. At the time Microsoft opted for this system to avoid accidentally opening an item on your PC.
However, not everyone was satisfied with this way of doing things. Microsoft has received for years the observations of many users who consider that this is not very agile or directly unnecessary. It's easy to imagine their arguments: 'Why is that second click necessary? What an absurd waste of time! "
These complaints were heard, even though the vast majority of users have no problem with double clicking. AND the solution was solomonic, trying to please everyone. Something that rarely is successful, although in this case it seems that it does.
Thus, for the dissatisfied, in Windows 11 it is possible to enable the option to open folders with a single click. Those who prefer that things remain as usual do not have to do anything.
How to enable one-click open folders in Windows 11
To enable this option you just have to follow the following steps:
- First of all, you have to open the File Browser simultaneously pressing the keys Windows + E.
- Next you have to click on the three point icon, as shown in the image above, to bring up a new options menu.
- In this menu appears the dialog box for "Folder options".
- There in the «General» tab you have to select the option "One click to open an item."
- Finally you have to click on the button "Apply" to save the changes and click «OK» to leave the "Folder Options" menu.
With this setting enabled, when we want to select any file or element, simply hover the mouse over it for a few seconds (an action that replaces the first of the usual two clicks). Then we can open them with a single click.
Disable One-Click Folder Open Option in Windows 11
It is possible that many users are encouraged to try this new option in Windows 11 to see how it works, but then they want to go back to the traditional double-click method. It is also possible (why not?) That those who claimed this option decide to discard it once they have tried it. And there will even be those who want to skip enter both options: a single click and double click, according to convenience at any time.
For all these cases, there is the way out of disabling the option to open files and folders with a single click. These are the steps to follow:
- As in the previous case, to start you have to open the File Browser simultaneously pressing the keys Windows + E.
- Then you have to click on the three point icon to display the options menu on the screen.
- In this menu, as we have seen before, the dialog box of "Folder options".
- Let's go to the «General» tab, where this time you have to select the option "Double click to open an item".
- We press the button "Apply" so that the changes made are saved and we click on «OK» to leave the "Folder Options" menu.
Knowing both methods, we can use the usual double click or the single click mode to open files and folders in Windows 11, being able to choose each one according to our preferences.
