What's new in iOS 17.2 beta 2: These are all the changes and features

iOS 17.2 beta 2 news

On this occasion we tell you everything you need to know about the new update on iPhone mobiles for developers, iOS 17.2 beta 2. It is about the second beta that Apple deploys on its way to perfecting its most recent operating system, iOS 17. Unlike previous betas, the most recent version does not incorporate as many new features, but it does pave the way for what is to come in the coming months.

The main new feature that iOS 17.2 beta 2 introduces is the record spatial video to play back from Apple Vision Pro. In addition, important improvements in the operation of the Diary app, presented in the previous beta. Other news has to do with playlists in the Music app and by the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of Spain with the protection against sensitive content in the Messages app. Let's delve a little deeper into all this.

These are the main new features introduced by iOS 17.2 beta 2

iOS beta 17.2 2

Two weeks after the deployment of the first beta of iOS 17.2, Apple launches the second beta of its most recent operating system for iPhone. Remember that the first version for developers included the new Diary application and new functions in the Music app. The new translate function was also added for the Action button, new widgets and reactions with stickers in messages, among others. The second beta, for its part, introduces performance improvements and some new features.

Talking about the general features of this new version for developers, iOS 17.2 Beta 2 has a download size of just over 700 megabytes for iPhone 15 Pro Max. In the case of less recent models, such as the iPhone 11, the update does not weigh more than 500 megabytes. In any case, it is a light beta, taking into account that the previous version exceeded 6 GB.

How long until the final version of iOS 17.2 is released? Judging by this second beta, it doesn't seem like Apple has made much progress. Everything seems to indicate that we will continue receiving updates for a few more weeks until we obtain the final version at the end of the year. In the meantime, let's take a look at the visual innovations that this second version for developers brings with it.

Spatial video recording for Vision Pro

Space Video for Apple Vision Pro

One of the most important new features of this beta 2 is found in the Camera app, specifically in the Format menu. If we enter this section, we will see that it now includes a new option that allows you to activate the spatial video recording to view in the Apple Vision Pro Photos app. This recording mode captures videos at 30 frames per second at 1080p resolution.

To record in Space Video mode you just have to enable the option from the Camera app settings, under the Format section. Next, turn on the Camera and turn the phone horizontally so that the indicator that activates recording in spatial video mode appears. The videos you record are stored in the Photos app under the Space entry, a new album which also includes this beta 2.

Improvements in the Diary app

The Diary app has also received significant performance improvements in this beta, especially when suggesting ideas for writing. As you may remember, this new app was announced at WWDC 2023, but it did not see the light of day until the launch of beta 1 of iOS 17.2. The Diary app is designed to help us record our daily activities, ideas and any activities that we want to remember.

A very interesting detail about this new application is that it can give suggestions on what to write, in case we run out of ideas. Depending on where we've been, the music we've listened to, and the places we've visited, the app will help you feel inspired. Well then, In beta 2, the suggestions feature is now more accessible, making it much easier to start writing.

What's new in the Music app

Starting with beta 1 of iOS 17.2, every time we create a playlist in the Apple Music app, the iPhone automatically generates a very visual cover with the name of the playlist. In fact, the app generates several cover options for the playlist in question, so that it does not clash with the other Apple Music playlist covers or with the general interface of the app, which is very attractive, by the way.

However, beta 1 did not allow us to save the chosen cover for the playlist we had created, so we had to select a new one every time we entered the app. This problem was solved with beta 2, since It is now possible to save the selected cover and apply the change permanently for each playlist.

Improvements to the Sensitive Content Warning feature

iPhone sensitive content notice

iOS 17 added a very interesting feature under the Privacy and Security menu, called Sensitive content notice. By activating it, the user avoids receiving unwanted nude photos or videos on their device. In initial versions of iOS 17, these warnings were available in messages, contact tabs in the phone app, AirDrop, and video messages in FaceTime.

Now, With beta 2 of iOS 17.2, Apple makes the Sensitive Content Notice available in other places on our iPhone. Thus, the security measure will also cover the stickers in the Messages app and the contact signs in the Contacts application. In this way, the possibility of being exposed to unwanted sensitive content from your mobile is reduced to a minimum.
