You may be considering changing your browser or you even bought a new personal computer yesterday and want to install a browser. There are many options and at some point you have thought How is Safari on Windows? Well, this article is going to take that idea out of your head. A few years ago it was an option like any other but today you have to discard it completely. But do not worry because it will be for options in terms of browsers. In fact, today everyone opts for other different browsers in Windows. You would be very alone with that decision and it has a reason.
As we tell you today there are many options that stand out above Safari for Windows. You have Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Opera. In fact, we have talked about these browsers in other articles and Opera is presented as a very interesting option.
What happens is that you may be thinking that you are a fan of Apple, that we understand it, and that all its products are great for you, even you want the Safari browser on your Windows operating system. What was said, a few years ago it was a very good option, but today it is not and we are going to give you the reasons in the following paragraphs.
Safari on Windows: why shouldn't I use it?
As we discussed earlier, not so long ago, Apple offered its browser support for the Windows operating system. It can be said that those of the apple passed a phase in which all their products were exclusive and then began to sell them on Microsoft and Windows and later have a crisis again and leave many of them exclusively for Apple and iOS and MacOS.
That's where the problem with Safari comes in. It is one of those products that Apple restricts in terms of its use outside devices own that have the apple in the back. Therefore the browser is now only available for Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
So that you get the idea of the error you would be making if you decide to install this browser on your Windows operating system: The latest version that Apple launches of Safari is 5.1.7, which was released in 2011 and it has absolutely no support, or maintenance or anything as they say from the Apple support that you can visit in case you don't believe it. That's right folks, the apple has failed us since 2011. We suppose that they would have data in which they would realize that another type of browser is used in Windows and that development and maintenance was not profitable for them.
Therefore you already have a great reason not to install Safari on Windows. Apple's browser has not received support or updates since 2011. This may be silly for you but if we are talking about a browser keep in mind that you could be putting your personal computer at risk.
To begin with, because from 2011 to 2021, which is when we are writing this post, thousands of new browser vulnerabilities will have been discovered. If Safari does not receive updates, you would be unprotecting the PC using Safari. Of course it is already a good reason not to install it.
Does all this seem little to you? Well then you have to know that web development today has nothing to do with that of years ago. What does this mean? Well, as simple as that if you go through different web pages that are in simple HTML it is likely that nothing will happen and that you use them without more, but if you go through websites that are using the latest versions of CSS, Java and many other languages programming that are used today much more than back then, they do not work for you and you cannot visualize them.
Therefore we do not believe that you want to see that when you enter any website you will see totally broken or not available. Safari would not be able to interpret those functions and you would not like it at all. In fact without knowing this you would probably think that the PC is bad or that something strange is happening.
Is Safari on Windows the fastest browser?
Of course not. We are not going to make you wait any longer to answer this question that has been seen a lot on the Internet for years. Everything that has been discussed above about Safari and Windows is not true. Today there are much faster browsers for users of the Windows operating system. Like for example Opera, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Without getting into specifying anything, we already tell you that any of those three is better. But it is that today even the old Explorer itself would be better than Safari, without using its new version we say. Imagine what you want to install on your PC if we put the old Explorer ahead.
Safari doesn't integrate well into your Windows operating system. It has a lot of crashes when adding bookmarks, constantly try to use Apple apps in the same installer and it is also not a browser that makes us very safe since it has always had vulnerabilities in terms of security and pirates. With all this we are referring to the data that was collected from its latest versions. Now imagine what it would be like to install a 2011 version on your 2021 pc.
What about multimedia content? Is there better Safari?
In the past, the Safari browser was also installed because it allowed you to reproduce many web page content that other browsers did not allow at that time. Ahem, Internet Explorer. But it is that at present this is no longer the case.
If you have read it somewhere, that post or comment must be dated to the low 2000s because in 2021 you can forget about this concern. With the current browsers you will be able to view the video, audio or image files that you find online without any problem from any new browser. All the sites and web pages you visit they will adapt to the needs of current browsers Opera, Chrome or Firefox.
In fact and as we discussed throughout the article, if you use a 2011 Safari it will give you quite a few problems. Today different formats are used such as vp9 or ogg for video and audio on web page. These formats are easily reproduced by current browsers, but as you have downloaded and installed the latest version of Safari, you can consider all these extensions dead. You will not be able to reproduce any type of content that has all the current extensions.
Therefore the conclusion is that it is not worth it at all. We recommend that you take a look at the article that we have recommended in the first paragraphs about Opera and Chrome on Windows. That's where you'll find the true and current browser winner. See you in the next Mobile Forum article.
