Today we are going to talk about one of those dangers: FileRepMalware. What is it and how can we protect ourselves from it?
FileRepMalware, what is it?
Such a long name does not seem very commercial, although being an element that can contaminate our equipment is a bit scary, really. In the classifications established by the main antivirus, it is known by the detection code Win32:Evo-gen.
FileRepMalware is a malicious file and a potential threat for any computer connected to the internet. It is specifically designed to wreak havoc on the device that it is capable of infecting, acting in very different ways, as we will explain later.
What is FileRepMalware and how much harm can it do us?
In the best of cases, the problems that FileRepMalware can cause us are mimicked more or less recurring appearance of certain messages and alerts. As the beginning of the file name indicates (Win32), it is a file specifically developed for the Windows operating system, so poses no threat to Mac.
How does this malware enter your computer
As with the undesirable Trojans (experts do not agree to classify FileRepMalware in that category), this malware uses the intrusive advertising to sneak into our computers. You know, those annoying banners, pop-ups and confidential user data registration forms that appear without prior notice when we access certain pages.
Malware developers know well how to hide these malicious programs.
FileRepMalware's 'trick', which is also used by many other malware programs, is to impersonate an Adware application. It replicates its shape and appearance to try to trick users into clicking on it. These are usually advertisements that offer attractive products and opportunities at bargain prices. They have the appearance of legal advertising, but they carry a serious risk.
With stealth and subterfuge, FireRepMalware enters our computers like a thief in the night. The developers of these malicious packages know how to hide them well. That is why you have to be especially cautious with:
- Infected email attachments.
- Fraudulent advertising.
- Infected files on peer-to-peer (P2) file-sharing networks.
- Fake updates.
Being naïve, or simply making a mistake when clicking, these ads direct us to malicious websites that can run scripts that install malware on our computer.
How to prevent the entry of FileRepMalware?
Of course, users are advised not to click on such advertisements. It is the best system that exists to avoid infections in our devices. It's better to prevent than to cure. Here are some basic safety rules that we should all apply:
- Have a lot be careful when browsing the web, avoiding accessing suspicious pages.
- Think twice before downloading and installing software. You only have to open the doors of our computer to previously verified visitors.
- Analyze each window carefully and download dialog that may appear while browsing the internet.
- Download all app updates from official sources or proven reliability. And always through direct download links.
If despite all these precautions we begin to experience redirects or blue screen errors, or if we find that our device is beginning to behave in an unpredictable way, there is a high probability that the computer is infected with some type of malware.
How to remove FileRepMalware
Now that we already know almost everything about FileRepMalware, what it is, how it can attack us and what damage it can cause, it is time to analyze the best way to eliminate this malware.
There's not much to think about it. The solution is install a good security program, capable of executing a complete scan of our system and of applying the most suitable antivirus software. If we discover that we have been infected by this program, we must not panic: it is true that FileRepMalware is very harmful, but it is also true that, once detected, removing it is not too complicated. Windows Defender
A very accessible option, since it is already integrated into the Windows operating system itself. Of course, to use Windows Defender you have to uninstall any other antivirus that we may have on our computer.
These are the steps to activate Windows Defender:
- First we go to the Windows Start menu, where we select "Setting".
- Then click on the option "Update and Security" and then on "Windows Security".
- The next step is to click on «Protection against viruses and threats ».
