Countryle, the Wordle for lovers of geography

countryle

Fever Wordle, the popular word-guessing game, has given rise to all kinds of variants, some of which are truly original. One of them is countryle, which we will talk about in this post, a version of Wordle especially recommended for those who want to test their knowledge of geography.

The challenge posed by Countryle is to guess a different country every day. After each attempt, the player obtains new clues that will help him refine his search. For example, in which hemisphere or on which continent is the country we are looking for located, what is the average temperature or its population, etc. The more extensive our knowledge in this field, the easier it will be to solve the enigma.

How to play Countryle?

Every day there is a hidden country whose name we have to find out. The game mechanics follow more or less the rules of the classic Wordle: we have six tries. In each of them you have to write the name of a country, select it from the list that opens and press the “Enter” button.

Icons will appear on each answer that offer us the following information: hemisphere, continent, average temperature, population, and coordinates of the selected country (actually, it will only indicate if it is located to the north, south, northeast, etc., which It is very useful for those who have the map of the world "recorded" in their head). In short, matches are shown in green, errors in red and blue, indications by cardinal points.

In the image we see an example of how to play. For the first attempt, you simply have to choose a country at random, without further ado. we have selected Spain. The result shows us that we have only got one thing right: the country we are looking for is in the northern hemisphere, while the blue icon indicates that the country we are looking for is further south.

On the second try we tried our luck with Egypt. We see that we have succeeded with the continent (Africa), although we continue to fail in the population, which is too high, and the average temperature, which is too low. Finally, the icon of the coordinates indicates that the hidden country is further east. The circle narrows.

The third time's a charm: we select Mauritania and… Bingo! That is the country we were looking for. Now a screen is displayed with the final result and our statistics. We only needed three tries, we are really good.

The world map that appears on the screen reflects our progress: we have revealed 0,5% of all the hidden countries in Countryle, and 2% of the total of the African continent. If we continue playing every day, we will be able to fill in the entire map and, above all, expand our geographical knowledge. And all that, playing.

It should also be noted that Countryle offers configuration options that can be managed from the round map icon inside the cogwheel, in the top bar menu, according to our own tastes and preferences:

  • Language (Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, etc.).
  • Dark mode or normal mode.
  • High contrast mode, to improve color display.
  • temperature units: in degrees Celsius (º C) or Fahrenheit (º F).
  • Option to use a comma or not to separate the figures greater than a thousand, referring to the number of population of each country.

To conclude, we must highlight Countryle as one of those entertaining and educational games that can be a lot of fun for both children and adults. one more way to discover the world, have a good time and learn. What more can you ask for in a game?

Other versions of Wordle

There are many other Wordle variants based on the classic version. Many of them we have already discussed previously in this blog. They all start from a common trunk, although they offer different modes of entertainment, some of them focusing on very specific aspects.

classic variants

These offer new ways to play Wordle, adding degrees of difficulty that force our neurons to work a little harder when it comes to guessing the hidden word:

  • wordle with tildes. It is the same game, but here the tildes come into play.
  • Children. In this variant, the word to guess is only three letters long. Ideal for the little ones in the house.
  • Time trial. Not only do you have to discover the hidden word, but you also have to do it before time runs out.
  • nerdle, the same as Wordle, but with numbers.
  • sleep. Two boards with two words, which makes it very difficult to get it right. There is also a variant of four words (Quordle) and another of eight (Octordle).
  • leftle (only available in English). Perhaps it is the most curious variant of this game, since the words to be guessed are swear words and profane expressions.

thematic variants

In this category we should include Countryle. These are games that follow the Wordle structure to address different topics. Here are some examples:
